Today, Dave H has a much more insightful look at the current state of Netscape than Dave W. Even in 1998, Netscape's technology should not be dismissed. A cross-platform UI that works for millions of users is an accomplishment that Frontier is light-years from accomplishing.
The current state of Netscape technology rivals Google's, and it's core is open to customization, free of expense. Surely, Netscape's proprietary extensions to the Mozilla core amount to a couple of niceties layered on a boatload of attentional landmines. So, while it's safe to doubt Netscape's long term impact, a bet on Mozilla as a non-starter is sure to lose. Cognitive Tactics of Popup Ads Ads on the web are getting outrageous. Not because they're necessarily worse than television commercials, but because the nature of the interruption is not consistent across the media. My take, in progress... the cognitive tactics of popup ads.
I started this inventory last week and it's nice to see Wired offer a take on it, as many of the sites that might cover such a thing are infested with the most extreme of the new ad forms. Wired: "Some [ads] even crawl over content, forcing you to simply wait helplessly for the nightmare to end." [via Scripting News]
