ZDNet's coverage of website user behavior and log file analysis is a solid read for those unfamiliar with the issues or vendors. I found it interesting that ZDNet has a critical mass in web analytic coverage and integrates their historical coverage of the field with the article. It's definitely a sign of maturity of their web presence compared to such hypertextual laggards as eWeek.
CNN is also an interesting case. Long ago, CNN web editors were encouraged to seek out links on the web at large. Sound business sense (?!?) and a body of existing content has long restricted linking to within the CNN site. Perhaps the real unique characteristic of web logging is the willingness to link outside of one's domain.
Then there's the lesser crime of valuing one's content above others by targetting new windows practiced by many, including a notable hypertext critic, but we'll save that discussion for another day.
