pie menus are a old concept in the hci field (early 80s).
they
capitalize on Fitt's law by making each option equidistant from the click source.

I've been playing with a lot of "dwell senstive" effects lately (eg. things happen on mouseover) but the traditional cascading pie menu scenario is interesting because it really hinges on a mouseout... you strike through the menu of interest, seen in this animation. My web implementation is not as sophisticated, though I'm exploring ways of adding another layer.
